For languages with non-roman scripts (Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian and Thai) it can take some time to get completely comfortable with the writing system. To help you with this, you can select different display options by clicking on the ‘Settings’ icon at the top right hand corner, and choose whether to display romanization.
You might find it helpful to go through the lessons a few times with different display options. For those studying Chinese and Japanese, we recommend that you do each lesson at least twice: turn off the characters (Hanzi/Kanji) the first time round and focus solely on the sound and the (Pinyin/Hiragana) spelling of the words and sentences. After that, do the lesson again with characters turned on so your brain can focus on the characters and match them to the sound and meanings faster.
